LROCWA 55th Anniversary gathering at Talbot Hall and day trip

A weekend trip to check out new tracks.

We enjoyed a few days away with our Avan club.

A run down the coast from Seabird. This a recon for a future LROCWA trip.

LROCWA Yeal Swamp Day Trip

Seven vehicle set out to explore what Yeal Swamp had to offer.

Brian lead the way in his trusty Pariente.

Tracks were mainly sandy but not too boggy. We still aired down to help with traction and reduce track damage.

To start the day we had fun going down a small hill and back up. Only one incident where a wrong track was chosen and caused a stoppage.

Then on towards the swamp, now a lake with a small creek feeding it.

Lunch and the final section of the trip back to the black top and home.

Quite a lot of close country so a few scratched to add to the collection.

Anniebrook with the Avan Club 2024

Pam, Layla and I enjoyed a week down south of Perth with our W.A. Avan club, staying at Southern Stars Holiday Park.

As always, we had activities, happy hours and evening entertainment to share with the group. During the day we adventured around the area, finding treasures like Simmos icecream, bays for the brave to surf and bays to swim when it gets warm.

The club organised a marvelous Christmas dinner at the park where we were treated to a two course meal.

The fund raising raffle on the last day raised funds for the Royal Flying Doctor and my number came up, a jar of marmalade my trophy.

Helena and Aurora Ranges Trip.

The week spent enjoying this remote part of W.A. had me encountering may interesting features. As I was alone, I did not my navigator to share the sights with. Our Avan was my camp.

Steve from the LROCWA led the trip. Being a geologist he was able to fill in a lot of the gaps in my knowledge of the rock formations and the nature of the land I was travelling across.

Starting at Southern Cross, we ( eight vehicles) headed north to Koolyanobbing then on to the Helena & Aurora camp site a further 150 km.

We set up camp and conducted day trips to explore the surrounding area. Driving to the top of the range provided great views of the surrounding countryside.

We travelled over formed tracks, most in good condition but evidence of damage from having been driven on in wet times.

We encountered recent tracks from camels but did not see any wild life.

On departure I decided to try and access the Emu Fence Road from south of Koolyanobbing but this section is restricted access only so diverted to Mt Palmer. Then on to the Vultee Air Crash memorial. At the memorial sections of the bomber can still be seen, most collected and deposited at the memorial.

From there we decided to head to Bruce Rock and into the caravan park for the night. A change to shower, fill water tanks and have a drink in the local pub.

I left the group here and continued south east to Narembeen. The grain museum well worth a visit, many interesting facts.

Ardath next stop but the pub closed so on to Roe lookout, Kokerbin Rock and Mt Stirling for the night. Kokerbin rock is the third biggest monolith in Australia. A magnificent view of all the surrounding country from both climbs. Kokerbin rock done mid afternoon in 30+ heat and around 2hrs return.

Last day and meandered through back roads to York and home.

1500km and no damage to car or van.

Seabird South

A trip done in two sections, first to check out the tracks to take the LROCWA on, then the day trip with the club.

The tracks we explored varied from Sand to limestone, flat to steep incline and decline.

All in all a fun track of around 200km return to home.

Talbot Hall

LROCWA Dryandra Forest Park 2023

Here are a few of the memories from my trip.

Australia Day at Mandurah 2024

Today we took the kayak and headed down to the canals to go and look at the houses and have a paddle around. A lot of very flash houses a lot of very flash boats and pleasing to say a lot of Australian flags for Australia day on many of the houses boats and cars. Kayak performed brilliantly the little motor made it so we could go a lot further and return feeling not too exhausted.

Recon Trip in the Collie Area

With another club member, we headed off to Collie. Staying at the caravan park we had a full day to check out tracks previously marked on our ExploreOz tracker.

Many tracks proved to be dead ends, some required extra skill and others plain sailing.

I hope to return later this year and run a club trip.

Boddington with the Avan club of W.A.

Enjoying a few days away from home in our Avan with other Avan club members.

We ended up with around 30 vans in the caravan park and enjoyed many happy hours together and other activities.
